AFLW Summer Series to Kick off this Weekend

Around 120 of the best footballers from NSW and the ACT will compete in the first round of the Women’s Summer Series this Saturday, 12 February at Tom Wills Oval, Sydney Olympic Park.

Four sides (two representing the GIANTS, two representing the Sydney Swans) will compete, with players looking to stand out from the pack as elite recruiters watch on.

AFLW clubs are always eager to select the best and brightest players, but this year is unique as the Sydney Swans will look to build its list from the ground up, preparing to enter the AFLW for the first time next season.

Players have been invited to participate in the Women’s Summer Series based on their outstanding performances at club, representative and Academies level. They come from all over NSW and the ACT, with Newcastle City the most represented club, with eight players pulling on a Swans Red jumper.

With players from the AFL Hunter Central Coast region being selected into the Swans Red side, the number of players selected is indicative of the talent currently playing in the region. A big congratulations to all the players representing our League. The Coach of the Swans Red side will be Kate Handley from Newcastle City, with Nadene McBride from Singleton and Terry O’Kane from Newcastle City coming on board as Assistant coaches.
