A Milestone With Lots of Luck
Nestled among some great Haval Black Diamond Cup games this week is a family milestone of wonderful significance. Umpire Riley Luck will be making her first grade field debut alongside AFLHCC life member and 300 game superstar Darrel Luck who is her father.
Darrel and Riley have umpired many first grade games together but always as a field and boundary umpire respectively. In fact, both are so talented they reached the pinnacle of our competition last year being selected to umpire the Black Diamond Cup Grand Final. But Darrel and Riley being appointed as field umpires in a first grade game is as rare as hen’s teeth and is a wonderful achievement for the Luck family.
Riley was overjoyed when she received the news.
“I have been field umpiring in lower grades and juniors for years now and enjoyed running boundary in Cup,” Riley said. “But it was time for a change.”
“I have waited for this day since I first umpired senior football 6 years ago. It’s a dream come true.”
It’s a local game for the Luck family so look out for Darrel’s wife Kylie and the rest of the family to be at the ground in support. Darrel and Kylie have 4 young children playing in the CCAFL junior competition so I doubt we have seen the last AFL milestone for the Luck family.
Darrel and Riley will be Field umpiring the HAVAL Black Diamond Cup game between Wyong and Gosford being played – 1:30pm at Bateau Bay Sports Facility.
We wish Darrel and Riley all the best for tomorrow and we hope they have a wonderful day.
