CENTRAL COAST – Inaugural Youth Girls Gala Day This Sunday

This Sunday 23rd April at Don Small Oval Tacoma, Central Coast Junior AFL in conjunction with the AFL NSW/ACT Development Team, will be hosting the inaugural Central Coast Junior AFL Youth Girls Gala Day.

A series of matches will be played across the day to develop the skills of the growing Youth Girls AFL community on the Central Coast, which has seen team numbers double from those in 2016. The addition of an Under 14’s Youth Girls Age group has seen Terrigal-Avoca and Saratoga enter female teams for the first time.

AFL NSW/ACT Central Coast Development Coordinator, Sam Shergold was excited to see so many participants in Female AFL on the Central Coast. “The AFL Womens competition, run nationally throughout February and March has really captured the attention of female athletes across the country, including here on the Central Coast”, Shergold enthused. “The number of new female participants at Junior Club level is fantastic to see, and it should be noted that new participants are coming along, almost daily to our clubs”.

Whilst there are trophies up for grabs for the winning teams at Under 14 and Under 17 Youth Girls Age Groups, this Sunday’s tournament is also being used as a recruitment opportunity for clubs. Any player looking for a team can simply come down to Don Small Oval on Sunday and approach their local club.
